Ojo Ayomide Oluwatosin, professionally known as Toyo Jo, is a Nigerian visual artist based in Akure, Ondo State. His multidisciplinary practice combines portraiture, pop art, and caricature to explore themes of identity, culture, resilience, and human emotion through bold, expressive imagery.
Toyo Jo's artistic journey began in childhood when an early drawing revealed his natural ability for visual storytelling. While studying Architecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, he developed a strong foundation in drawing and design, initially experimenting with plywood as a painting surface before transitioning to acrylic on canvas after participating in the 70 Years of Music in Nigeria Art Residency hosted by PopCentral. Working primarily with pencils and acrylics, Toyo Jo creates vibrant portraits that merge symbolic abstraction with expressive realism. His distinctive visual language transforms everyday individuals into dynamic urban identities, using exaggerated forms and saturated colors to celebrate the beauty found within human imperfection.
