Nature in Resonance
Curatorial Statement
Nature in Resonance brings together the work of Richard Rasa and Renee Pupetz in a dialogue centered on the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural world. Though their practices differ in subject and approach, both artists look to nature as a source of inspiration, reflection, and emotional connection. Their works invite viewers to consider nature not as a distant subject, but as a living presence with which we are continuously connected.
Richard Rasa’s vibrant figurative paintings focus on animals and the environments they inhabit, drawing attention to their resilience in the face of human impact and climate change. His distinctive use of expressive contours, vivid color, and occasional humor allows him to address serious environmental concerns without relying on guilt. His animals become individual characters, carrying both vulnerability and strength, encouraging viewers to reconsider the ways human actions affect other forms of life.
Renee Pupetz approaches nature through an intuitive and exploratory process. Working primarily with watercolor and acrylic, she creates colorful compositions inspired by flowers, trees, sunlight, and the interconnectedness of the natural world. Rather than following a predetermined plan, she allows each work to develop through intuition and discovery. Her practice transforms personal experience and observation into spaces where viewers are encouraged to look beyond the surface and experience nature as something fluid, interconnected, and alive.
Together, Rasa and Pupetz offer complementary perspectives on the natural world. One draws attention to the lives and vulnerability of animals; the other explores the rhythms, relationships, and beauty found within natural environments. Their works meet through a shared belief in the power of observation and imagination to deepen our relationship with the world around us.
Nature in Resonance invites viewers to pause and reconsider their place within the larger ecosystem of life. Through color, movement, poetry, and intuition, these two artists remind us that nature speaks in many forms—and that recognizing its presence is also a way of recognizing our own connection to it.
ABOUT Richard Rasa
An eclectic, self-taught artist, Richard Rasa has expressed himself through painting for several years, in a figurative style, while simultaneously pursuing his other creative activities: comic book writer and illustrator, and novelist. Living in the countryside, nature is his setting and his source of inspiration. His paintings are a pictorial narrative of the resilience of animals in the face of all that "humanity" makes them endure. His animal scenes are expressed with poetry, in a vibrant figurative style, inspired by a stained-glass artist's approach and
undeniably marked by his Malagasy origins. Humor is also present despite the sometimes serious nature of the subjects addressed. These are paradoxes that the artist enjoys playing with. His animals, with their clean lines, captivate with their unique expressions and invite us to rethink our relationship with nature.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Committed to animal welfare, I highlight the consequences of climate change on all species and their environment, as well as the harm we inflict upon them. In these chaotic scenes, color, poetry, and sometimes humor work together to foster resilience. I aim to show the public what we could lose without resorting to guilt. I love to capture the essence of animals by focusing on tracing their contours and expressions in just a few lines. For all my acrylic paintings on canvas, I create using a combination of brushes and Posca markers.
