Sara Safaei

Sara Safaei (b. 1982, Tehran, Iran) is a visual artist whose practice is rooted in minimalism and shaped by a deep sensitivity to both inner and outer worlds. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from the University of Applied Sciences in Tehran. Alongside her artistic practice, she dedicated nearly a decade to teaching painting and design to children and teenagers, an experience that continues to inform her thoughtful approach to creativity. Her work is characterized by geometric shapes, simple lines, and a restrained color palette, through which she conveys subtle emotions and human interactions. Safaei views simplicity as a profound form of communication, believing that as life progresses, clarity and purity become essential. She has exhibited in Tehran, including a group exhibition at Ivan Gallery in 2011, and continues to explore painting as a path of self-discovery, reflection, and connection with nature.

Silent Geometries: The Minimalist Vision of Sara Safaei
By Sfumato

In Silent Geometries: The Minimalist Vision of Sara Safaei, the artist invites viewers into a world where simplicity holds infinite depth. Through restrained palettes, geometric forms, and carefully balanced compositions, Safaei transforms the canvas into a space of reflection—where silence, clarity, and presence are as essential as color and line. Her practice is grounded in minimalism, not as an aesthetic alone, but as a philosophy of life. Safaei believes that with age and experience comes a desire for simplicity, an urge to return to what is pure and essential. This belief is reflected in her works, which reduce visual language to its most elemental forms while leaving space for emotional resonance. Each line, each shade of color, becomes a distilled gesture that speaks of both the internal self and the external world. Nature plays a vital role in her process. The act of observing colors, textures, and rhythms in the environment allows her to translate natural harmony into minimal forms. This sensitivity to her surroundings is mirrored by an equally strong introspection. For Safaei, painting is a journey of self-discovery: each artwork a record of inner reflection, each composition a dialogue between thought and emotion. Her works also embody the power of silence. In her words: “Just for a few minutes of silence, then let go and move on with life…” These pauses of stillness are not emptiness, but moments of release—spaces where tension gives way to calm. On canvas, this manifests as balanced tensions between form and void, presence and absence.

Beyond her own practice, Safaei encourages others to embrace persistence, confidence, and self-belief in their creative paths. She views art as boundless: an endless exploration of existence, where even the smallest shapes and colors can open new dimensions of meaning. Her paintings, though minimalist in form, carry a profound vitality. They invite viewers to find their own spaces of peace and energy, to see beyond the surface and engage with the subtle wisdom that lies within simplicity.

In this exhibition, Sara Safaei presents not only a collection of works, but also a philosophy: that art, at its most essential, is both a mirror and a passage—reflecting the self while opening pathways toward greater awareness of the world.
